FATEC has been working with SNCF since 2002. Following a call for tenders, the management contract has just been renewed for a fixed term of four years, with an option for an additional four years. This extension will allow for a deeper partnership by working on topics of strategic importance to SNCF.
Since FATEC was acquired by Théophane Courau, the partnership with SNCF has been renewed several times. The latest renewal has just taken effect, effective January 1, 2025. Despite its satisfaction with the service provided by FATEC, SNCF had requested a competitive bidding process. " Everyone knows how to manage fleets, but we needed to identify those with the greatest potential to move from a purely service-oriented approach to a more comprehensive approach to overall maintenance costs, " explains Frédéric Comte, Director General of the SNCF's vehicle fleet.
Further thematic explorations
The contract covers the various SNCF entities as well as the group's subsidiaries. The fleet comprises 25,000 vehicles and equipment, 95% of which are light vehicles. Two levels of service have been established. Firstly, support in the technical and administrative management of the vehicles, from their entry into service (including servicing, maintenance, and assistance with vehicle return), as well as driver relations. Secondly, analysis and consulting aimed at improving fleet management. On this point, FATEC has distinguished itself by delving into various themes. " We are operating with the mindset of a pilot client ," says Frédéric Comte. Nine ambitious projects have been proposed. " The first deliverables will be available at the end of the first half of 2025. They will be phased in until the end of 2026 ," explains Marine Dumontier, Key Account Manager who oversees the SNCF fleet at FATEC.
Complete projects
Among the objectives set, FATEC will work on securing the use of fuel cards and electronic toll collection by SNCF employees. The new contract will also optimize technical and maintenance expenses through data analysis and the use of available tools (driver application, management portal accessible to various line managers, etc.). A third area of focus will be CSR: repairing rather than replacing, using recycled parts, and setting carbon emission targets. Furthermore, FATEC will make proposals to SNCF aimed at reducing vehicle downtime. Finally, the contract will strengthen vehicle compliance, with a focus on ensuring the safety of employees on the move and preventing downtime that could disrupt construction projects.
“ We are delighted to begin a new chapter with SNCF. By demonstrating its ability to innovate and constantly improve, FATEC has offered a strategic depth that will allow this major company to optimize its fleet for at least four more years,” concludes Théophane Courau, President of FATEC.
