Mobility Week 2019

Recognizing that 63% of the French working population commutes to work by car alone, the government is implementing a new mobility policy law to encourage citizens to use greener and more economical modes of transport. The mobility market is evolving towards multimodal offerings and platforms, allowing users to choose their mode of transport based on their journey and needs.

FATEC is tackling this issue by studying this market trend and testing the implementation of mobility plans in order to develop new mobility offerings.  European Mobility Week provided the perfect opportunity to further explore this topic internally.

The European Mobility Week has been organized every September since 2002 by the European Commission for local authorities and citizens. In line with the LOM bill , the aim of this dedicated week is to encourage people to use alternatives to private cars and adopt environmentally friendly modes of transport across Europe.

At its premises, FATEC organized thematic workshops related to mobility issues. Employees were invited to think about the future of fleet management and to imagine how new modes of transport could facilitate their daily commutes while saving money and polluting less.

Each lunchtime, a theme related to mobility issues was analyzed through interventions and testimonies from some of our teams.

To kick off the week, FATEC opened the debate on the future of fleet management. How can a successful transition to mobility management be achieved? Market trends, statistics, competitor offerings: analyzing these elements allows for a relevant and effective renewal of service offerings.

On Tuesday, a FATEC account manager answered the question, "Is the electric vehicle a real alternative to the internal combustion engine?" By comparing the costs of construction, purchase, consumption, and maintenance, electric vehicles can prove to be an economical option if used primarily around the home and in urban areas. Thanks to her testimony, FATEC employees were able to engage with the topic and even test drive her electric car!

“How to optimize your commute?” was the topic on Wednesday. The aim was to identify more economical and less polluting daily transportation options. Given the location of FATEC, buses, trains, and inter-company carpooling proved advantageous for employees. An inter-company carpooling program was implemented, encouraging the 900 employees who work in the same area to download the Karos app.

On Thursday at lunchtime, an external speaker, a road safety trainer, led an awareness campaign on the dangers of using a mobile phone, alcohol, and fatigue while driving, as well as motorcycle gear and regulations for two-wheeled vehicles. Through interactive discussions, FATEC employees became aware of the dangers and have thus become new ambassadors for road safety. To support this initiative, FATEC is a signatory of the 7 commitments to road safety:

To conclude the week, a brainstorming session was held on Friday at noon to gather all the ideas for developing FATEC's offerings. Like internal consultants, each participant contributed to building relevant offerings and reflecting green, economic, and safety values at their respective levels.
