The new fuel titles 2018-2019

News

Why this change?

After the implementation of the European directive dating from October 2014, fuels are represented by geometric figures with a letter and a number. The pictograms have been the same in all petrol stations in the European Union since October 12, 2018.

Gasoline becomes E5, E10 and E85, explanation:

The label is round, with green color. Inside an “E” to designate the name of the fuel and a number which indicates the biofuel content.

What about diesel then?

The most consumed fuel in France, diesel also adopts new codes:

“B” for Biodiesel, followed by a number which indicates the share of biofuel; B10, for its part, corresponds to Diesel Extreme Froid. The new signage includes “XTL”, for future synthetic diesel fuels.

The means

  • To avoid confusion, vehicles sold in Europe from October 12 have the appropriate fuel label affixed to their fuel filler flaps.

  • The European standardization of fuels aims not only to simplify identification for consumers but also to highlight the share of biofuel in their composition.

EU stated objective: to support the deployment of a continuous network of infrastructure for alternative fuels in the European Union”

New fuels or “biofuels”

The new fuels or “Biofuels” have a diamond shape making them very easy to recognize in addition to their white colors with blue outlines. Being in perpetual development, their presence will be more and more marked in service stations in order to meet the demand of new consumers.

Update on…: State of play of biofuels

In 2015 , alternative fuels to petroleum gasoline and diesel, constantly increasing, represented 7.1% of fuels consumed compared to 6.7% in 2014.

A change that is intended to be reassuring

The change is happening gradually, since October 12 the new labels have appeared, however the old ones will not disappear.
